Short introduction....
My name is Sandor Kopinsky. I was born in 1963 in Amsterdam (Netherlands), where I still live with my wife Saskia and our two children Alex and Maya. After the birth of my son in 1997, I started to get interested in my ancestors and found that my uncle Bud Karthaus already did quite some research. I would like to pay special respect and grantude to my uncle Bud Karthaus, the initiator of my interest in the Kopinsky genealogy. Unfortunaly he passed away in November 2005.
I traced my own forefather Kopinsky back to Gaim Kopinsky, who lived in the eighteen hundreds in Vilnius Lithuania (former part of USSR) and who died in 1893. His son Selik Kopinsky (born 1869 in Vilnius Lithunia) emigrated to Surinam from Russia - via the USA - between 1875 and 1895. At the same time, we think one of Selik's brothers (probably Joseph Cupinsky born approx. 1873) immigrated to the United States. In 1904, Selik, his wife and their five children travelled via New York to visit his brother Joseph Cupinsky in Boston MA (27 Anderson Street, Boston Massachusetts).
Nowadays, Kopinsky's can be found in the USA, Canada, Australia, United Kingdom, Germany, Surinam and the Netherlands (and who knows where else….). Unfortunately, however, I have not been able to clarify the relation between all Kopinsky's and Cupinsky’s.
Over the last years I have been corresponding with various Kopinsky’s, and we have very good contact with the Kopinsky family in Houston (TX, USA). They visited us various times in Amsterdam, we met in Paris October 2004, and, in May 2005 we visited hem in Houston (TX).
Goal
My goal is to complete the ancestors of Alex Kopinsky up to 10 generations and to find the kinship between the various Kopinsky families.
The following names appear in Alex ancestor tree:
Kopinsky (Suriname and Netherlands), Verrijk (Amsterdam and Haarlem, Netherlands), van der Velde (IJlst and Haarlem, Netherlands), van den Eijkhoff (Haarlem, Netherlands), Roelvink (Hengelo, Netherlands), Brinkman (Enschede and Lonneker, Netherlands), van Peer (Groningen, Veendam and Wildervank, Netherlands) and Kroon (Veendam, Netherlands).
Three different genealogies of the van Peer family have been developed and although they most likely have the same ancestor (province Groningen), I have not yet been able to trace the kinship.
If you have any corrections or additions- or if you know of people who might be interested - I would appreciate to receive your response. My contact details can be found below.
